Contrast

I have been New York for 5 years. Everything is strange to me in the beginnging. Especially the subway system, the train is old fashion and the schedule always change. Sometime, it's hard for the people to be on time on their classes or works. However, the train in China is very fast and on time. If there is some problems with train, the department will send employee to fix it as soon as possible. Also, there are many security guard in each stop. The metro card is designed to different pattern in China. It can be used as debit card in the super market.
The education system in China is different from USA. I went to college for 1 year in China. We have to follow school's scheduel which set by school's management group. The only thing we can choose is the minor. The teacher prefer student keep quiet to speak loud. In contrast, student can choose the major and minor whatever they like. I think the schedule is very flexible because we can arrange the time for study and work by ourselves. The great thing is no age limit for student in U.S. You can find the classmates from different age in class. It's fair to them to have a chance study.
Moreover, as Chinese we spend Chinese New Year more than X'mas, but I think X'mas and New Year are more fun in NY because everyone celebrate the Holidays together, no matter where he/she comes from.

  1. By studying different cultures throughout my life, I know that the U.S. does education quite differently than other cultures. It is very interesting and helpful (in understanding different culture values) to see how systems are run in other parts of the world. I wish you a lot of luck here!

  2. Thank you for this post, Charlene. I just realized that Russia and China have a lot in common :) We have very similar education systems. We also have a fixed school schedule and the majority of the students are of the same age. In Russia we also have big New Years celebration and Christmas is more family-oriented and quiet. I hope to go to China one day and experience it firsthand.
